08 Jun RoboBowl
Purpose: To promote STEM careers and support current middle school Robotics students in Long Beach Unified School District in their efforts to participate in future robotics competitions.
Team RoboBowl organized and managed an informal robotics tournament for LBUSD Middle School robotics students new to the program that would allow them an opportunity to practice in a competitive setting and become familiar with that environment.
One hundred and fifty students had the opportunity to participate in a robotics tournament free of charge. The event included a keynote presentation from Dr. Tatangla Coleman focusing on STEM career options, as well as a demonstration from Long Beach Police Department’s SWAT Team Robot. Participants and their families received information material on pathways towards a STEM career that will guide them through the high school and post-secondary education pathway to those careers. As part of our teams support and encouragement of robotics, the top 4 performing teams received a monetary prize to be used towards their future robot development and competitions.
