The program is designed for high school students that live or go to public or private schools in the Long Beach Unified School District. We are looking to bring in students who are interested in the following overarching themes: Leadership Development, Environmental Sustainability, Philanthropy, and Diversity Equity and Inclusion that help to establish a greater sense of belonging. Students do not have to excel in these areas but should show a deep interest in learning more about these topics.
The Youth Leadership Long Beach program is a unique opportunity for area high school students to join with emerging youth leaders from other schools to experience a group-training program based on principled leadership. It empowers youth to accept roles as community trustees and the importance of solving the community’s challenges through individual responsibility. In addition, this program aims highlight important role STEM fields play in our community.
This 5-month program, which meets primarily on Sundays is focused on personal leadership, environmental sustainability, philanthropy, and diversity equity inclusion and belonging. Through the program the students will be able to connect with local community leaders.
This program has been adapted to be facilitated online. The program is scheduled to begin in January and concludes in mid-May. Students are required to meet weekly from on Sunday from 11-1pm.
The health and safety of our participants is our top priority. This program is designed to be fully online, however if we find that we can create small in-person opportunities in open spaces that are in compliance with regulations set by health and safety experts we will consider the option of in person meetings. Should these in person meeting happen, they will not be mandatory.
High school youth can apply online through the LLB website. Beginning on October 19 th 2020, Leadership Long Beach will make application information available to school staff. We encourage all interested youth to apply. If you have any additional questions feel free to contact us at Youthllb@leadershiplb.org
There is no charge for the youth to participate in the program. The youth program is generously sponsored by community foundations, Leadership Long Beach alumni and other groups who value the the future leaders of our city. We take care to find students who are passionate and committed to the goals of this program; to improve themselves and Long Beach.
