The Leadership Long Beach Institute is open to any adult who lives or works in the City of Long Beach. Through experiential learning and in-depth discussions, participants increase their knowledge of Long Beach and the surrounding communities.
The program explores current issues with key individuals and stakeholders, gaining knowledge and data to be able to make informed decisions going forward in their professional, civic and personal careers. The program will provide for numerous opportunities to build connections and access a network of professionals and city leaders that would normally take years to cultivate.
The monthly sessions include presentations from and discussions with local Long Beach leaders. Attendees are also introduced to a network of information resources.
Our program curriculum is constantly evolving to match the changing landscape of Long Beach. Principled Leadership is a key focus of the program. Those principles lead to better decision-making that serves all of our community.
This year’s program begins in August of 2022.
Required attendance is expected on the following dates: Orientation (August 29th, 2022) Pre-Retreat Meeting ( September 12th, 2022), and Leadership Retreat (September 22nd – 25th).
First Monday of the Month:
The program’s monthly sessions are on the first Monday of the month from October through June Except for January’s Class which will be on MLK Day (January 13th, 2023). Full participation and attendance is expected of all participants. This is to maximize the full benefits from the information, interaction, and connections made during each session.
Program/Class session days are Mondays from 8 am to 5 pm; the session days are generally the first Monday of the month except for the Orientation, Leadership Retreat and national holidays.
Along with attending the class sessions, the participants will work in groups to create and implement a community project that results in constructive change for the Long Beach community. The goal is to further develop the participants’ leadership, teamwork and community trusteeship abilities. This will require engagement outside of the monthly sessions. The participants are expected to gather information, collaborate with other classmates or meet with identified subject experts in preparation for upcoming program sessions.
