Gant Elementary Planter Box Project

Finding ways to serve our community, despite these unique times

Join us to make it a “Day On, not a Day Off,” on Saturday, April 23rd  as part of the MLK National Day of Service in Long Beach.

The Need We Serve:

Gant Elementary needs a few planter boxes restored in their school’s community garden space. Volunteers are also needed to help with garden cleanup and planting.

How to Serve:

With a team of volunteers, we plan to restore planter boxes that fell into disrepair. Volunteers who may have experience with woodworking will be helpful on this project. In addition to carpentry skills, volunteers will also weed and plant within the area.

Volunteer Details:

  • This project would be good for people that  have skills with tools/building
  • Some power tools will be used in addition to regular gardening tools
  • Volunteers should be able to work with their hands. There will be lifting of bags of soil, planting, garden cleanup around the area
  • If volunteers have extra tools, please bring them – cordless drills, electric screwdrivers, bits, portable electric saws

What to bring: 

  • Wear comfortable clothes for building and transporting soil
  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
  • Gardening gloves

Minimum Age Recommended: 16+
