Finding ways to serve our community, despite these unique times

Join us to make it a “Day On, not a Day Off,” on Saturday, April 23rd  as part of the MLK National Day of Service in Long Beach.

The Need We Serve:

Willow Springs Park is an oasis of nature surrounded by an industrial area, which the Long Beach Office of Sustainability is working to restore to its native landscape. We will help with this restoration effort by returning this area to its natural habitat by pulling weeds, mulching areas to prevent weeds from resurfacing, and planting native plants. This project will require:

 

How to Serve:

Community members will help by planting native species, placing ground cover to help prevent weeds, and pulling invasive and non-native plant species to ensure that the native plants thrive.

Volunteer Details:

Volunteers will need to bring:

  • sun protection, hat, sunblock, sun hat.
  • appropriate clothing; something you don’t mind getting soiled.
  • water.
  • gloves (if you have them).

Volunteers should be able to stand, kneel and bend for long periods and be exposed to the sun and other outdoor elements.

Minimum Age Recommended: 5+
