While diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging have been pillars of Leadership Long Beach, they has not always been at the forefront of how we approach every aspect of what we do and who we are as an organization. That is why, since early 2019, a group of alumni and staff stepped up to create the change that we did know we needed.
They started with creating our DEI+B statement…
The vision of Leadership Long Beach cannot be fully realized unless it is approached with diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as our foundation. To connect and meaningfully serve Long Beach, we must acknowledge inequities and create opportunities for future leaders to thrive, belong, and create systemic change.
The DEI+B Committee of Leadership Long Beach works to promote and support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in our community and within our organization. We identify gaps in our programs, policies, and practices, and strive to improve our organization’s effectiveness in meeting the needs of our diverse membership. We develop strategies to address these gaps, celebrate our successes, and support partner organizations and community agencies in their own DEI+B efforts.

Leadership Long Beach operates in the City of Long Beach, CA, which we acknowledge is the traditional, unceded territory of the Kizh/Tongva people. In the virtual environment, we depend on Zoom and Google, which do not exist in an abstract “cloud” but are headquartered on unceded Ohlone and Tamyen land.
